Rad-Sure Blood Irradiation Indicators give visual verification of irradiation. When they are attached to blood products, they show whether the blood products have been irradiated or not. Rad-Sure is the standard for blood irradiation indicators, and it has been for over 25 years.

Hospitals irradiate blood to prevent a rare fatal complication of blood transfusion (TA-GVHD).

PEO provides two kinds of blood irradiation indicators. The first one is for gamma ray and the second one for x-ray. There are also two options for the minimum dose: 15 Gy or 25 Gy.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

LOOK FOR THE “NOT”

peel – stick – irradiate – read

When a doctor attaches an  irradiator to a blood product, the indicator shows wether the blood is irradiated or not. Before the indicator is attached, it reads: “not irradiated”. Once you attach the indicator to irradiated blood, the word “not” disappears and the indicator reads: “irradiated” (as you can see here).

The Rad-Sure indicators adhere to AABB standards and hold the AABB seal of compliance.
