AZ St-Maarten Duffel chooses for the Sun Nuclear 3D water phantom

AZ St-Maarten Duffel goes for innovation and chooses the cylindrical Sun Nuclear 3D water phantom installed by PEO Radiation Technology BVBA on July 6th 2011

On the 6

th

of June 2011 the Radiotherapy department of St. Maarten Hospital Duffel received their definitve Sun Nuclear 3D water phantom. When they last year decided to replace their old IBA system, the innovative system of

Sun Nuclear

was resolutely chosen. Given it was a new concept, the system had to prove itself first. Therefore, a “Beta Test Agreement” was concluded between the physics team of Dr. Spaas (under leadership of Dr. Karen Feyen) and PEO Radiation Technology / Sun Nuclear Corporation. The last year physicists of the AZ St-Maarten were closely involved in the evaluation and further development of the system. After the system development and testing phase have successfully been passed and FDA and CE certifications are awarded, the final system is delivered. PEO thanks all parties for a smooth and pleasant cooperation.

User experience Dr. Karen Feyen

“We are using the 3D SCANNER for some months now and are very pleased with it. The auto setup feature and the one-cable-connect allows quick and easy deployment, creating a very low threshold to its use. As a result, we are considering to increase the frequency of  our routine watertank measurements, which we lowered with our previous system. The software provides a very clear user interface, reflecting the workflow of the measurement and post processing tasks. The ability to search through the database of all recorded scans is a powerful tool. The fact that post processing operations are applied as consecutive layers, with the ability to rollback to any previous one, is a key quality feature in the data management of the commissioning process we are currently undertaking.” Karen Feyen, Ph.D., Radiotherapy Department AZ St. Maarten, Duffel – Belgium

Set-up video Sun Nuclear 3D water phantom

advantages

  • automatic setup after manual positioning under the linac
  • automated tank leveling, water surface, and beam center alignment – less than 15 minutes
  • setup tank once for all required scans
  • equiped with integrated dual measurement channel electrometer for scan and reference detector
  • ring and diameter drive mechanism positions detector in any relevant 3D location
  • detector maintains consistent orientation for in-plane, cross-plane and diagonal scans
  • 63cm scanning range (eliminates tank shifts) and 40cm x 40cm field range
  • compatible with both ionization chambers as diodes
  • high quality PMMA (acrylic) in cylindrical shape which offers high strength and helps to resist deformation
  • manageable via PC software and/or supplied pendant
  • intuitive software (SNC Dosimetry scanning software)
  • fully filled in +/- 6 minutes
  • emptied in +/- 4 minutes
  • lift table with extended base for more stability, desinged to fit over all linac floating floor panels
  • fully operational in less than 30 minutes

scope

  • QA / commissioning of all types conventional linacs
  • QA / commissioning of the VERO SBRT linac
